The UK-Korea trade agreement reiterates, as far as possible, the FREE trade agreement BETWEEN the EU and Korea, with some technical changes. Below is a brief description of customs legislation, preferential origin, agricultural and intellectual property protections under the new British-Korea free trade agreement. Export permits allowed in the UK prior to the UK`s withdrawal from the EU remain valid in the UK for goods exported under the UK-South Korea trade agreement. While the free trade agreement between Britain and Korea mimics the EU-Korea free trade agreement, Britain and Korea have agreed to resume negotiations within two years to review the UK-Korea trade agreement, which goes beyond the EU-Korea free trade agreement. In particular, if the UK leaves the EU with the withdrawal agreement, the UK and Korea have agreed to start negotiations immediately during the transition period. Martin Bell, deputy director of international trade at the Scotch Whisky Association, says there was “no problem” in disrupting business during the transition period. The UK-Korea trade agreement must now be ratified by both parliaments before it enters into force. After legislative approval, the agreement will enter into force either on 31 October 2019 in the event of a Non-Deal-Brexit, or at the end of the transition period, when the UK ratifies the withdrawal agreement.

With respect to electrical safety, South Korea has the option of continuing to apply for third-party certification for a shortlist of 53 items if it can justify them pose a risk to human health and safety. The transitional regime sealed in June 2019 between then-International Trade Minister Liam Fox and his South Korean counterpart, Yoo Myung-hee, is in line with the existing free trade agreement between Korea and the EU, a landmark agreement signed in 2011. Truss said the deal would allow companies such as luxury carmaker Bentley to “maintain trade as they do today and be able to seize the opportunities offered by Brexit.” The EU-South Korea trade agreement protects European Geographical Indications (GIs): “My priority is to ensure that British businesses are fully prepared for Brexit and ready to negotiate on Thursday 31 October,” Truss said in a statement.
The agreement establishes a customs committee to discuss and resolve all disputes over customs facilitation and trade, including the EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement, and all rules on medicines and medical devices must be published at an early stage so that businesses have been sufficient
